A career as a musician or content creator was never his plan. Instead, he intended to earn his money with something ‘serious’. Nowadays, even the most experienced drummers bow their heads in the YouTube comments when Jorge Garrido, alias El Estepario Siberiano, crushes another heavy and fast drum challenge.

JUST START WALKING
For Jorge, music was only ever a tool to finance his studies. However, when Spain implemented stricter education laws, and he had to leave university despite his good grades, his only option was music. But before he would need to leave this passion behind for a ‘real’ job, Jorge recorded the drumming skills he had learned so far on camera to at least not waste any of his efforts and uploaded these videos to YouTube. When the views of the first videos unexpectedly went viral, Jorge realised there might be potential for him on YouTube, TikTok and Instagram. What followed? Several million followers, countless viral video hits and the admiring recognition of absolute rock legends such as Tommy Lee and Jack Black.

Being successful on social media is not enough for the Spanish artist. Recently, he has been drawn back to the stage. The pure energy of live gigs and the magic created on and in front of the stage fascinates him too much. That’s why Jorge repeatedly trades in his daily drum training for the strenuous touring routine in favour of his current music projects, such as the band The Cost. He is willing to put up with the additional hard work that the tour life puts on top of his content creator job.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Trying to become a better version of yourself for yourself. Go on your own artistic path. Art is entirely subjective. So some people may think you’re going down the wrong way or losing touch, but as long as you are comfortable with that, and that is your decision, and you want to explore that way, I think that is totally okay, artistically speaking.
WHAT DOES FREEDOM MEAN TO YOU?
If I could retire and not work a single day in my life, that would be freedom for me. Freedom means not having anything that makes you act a certain way.
